Military downsizing to cost Fort Bragg 840 soldiering slots

FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) — Fort Bragg will lose about 840 positions as the Army reacts to budget cuts by eliminating about 40,000 slots worldwide in the next two years.

The staff cuts announced Thursday for Army installations around the world amount to less than 2 percent of Fort Bragg’s 53,000 soldiers. The cuts would reduce the Army’s total manpower to 450,000 troops.

The Fayetteville Observer (http://bit.ly/1NRNeKU) reported the Army cuts include the elimination of one of Fort Bragg’s two military bands.
