Early, one-stop voting begins

Our primary election is May 6, but you don’t have to wait to cast your vote. You can vote early through May 3, and you can register and vote at the same time.

More than 300 people came out to vote early in the three Wilmington locations Thursday. At least 32 of those people registered and voted at the same time. New Hanover County Board of Elections Director Bonnie Williams says those are great numbers for the first day.

While NewsChannel 3 was there, there were no lines, and voters were typically in and out within minutes. Many of them said it was convenient and easy. Voters have the option of voting electronically or using paper ballots.

Early voters we spoke to came out for a number of reasons.

Gwendolyn Craig says “I just came here to avoid the crowds, avoid the long waiting, and just go ahead and get it over with.”

Jim Auten had similar thoughts. “We know how busy they can get in some elections and I think this election is going to be particularly is going to be a huge turnout,” Auten said.

Early, one-stop voting is available until May 3.
