Gov. McCrory announces mental health task force
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — A new task force announced by Gov. Pat McCrory which combines the three branches of North Carolina’s government will examine better ways to treat and help those people with mental health and substance abuse disorders.
McCrory announced Tuesday the creation of the task force to be led by the chief justice of the state Supreme Court and the secretary of the state Department of Health and Human Services. One member from both the state House and Senate will also serve on the task force.
A statement says the task force will focus on finding early treatment and intervention options to prevent costly hospital stays or jail time. The statement said such solutions are especially necessary for young people.
The task force will submit its recommendations to the governor next May.
