JUST A TEST: Brunswick Nuclear Plant sounding sirens

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Don’t be alarmed if you hear the Brunswick Nuclear Plant sirens sound Wednesday morning; it’s just a test.

Dozens of sirens will sound within 10 miles around the Duke Energy plant, as crews and county officials test the systems to be sure they are working properly.

The 38 sirens will be tested at low-volume for ten seconds. The test is performed quarterly, in cooperation with emergency officials in Brunswick and New Hanover counties, who are responsible for sounding the sirens.

The testing is expected to go on for just an hour, from 10 to 11 a.m.
