UNCW Chancellor Sartarelli says globalization is a top priority

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Board of Trustees met today at UNCW. A highlight of the meeting was new Chancellor Zito Sartarelli presenting his preliminary vision for the university moving into the future.

High on the chancellor’s priority list is globalizing the school and its students and staff. Sartarelli said he hopes that UNCW can work on becoming competitive on an international level.

“We live in a very interconnected society and an interconnected world,” said Sartarelli.

Sartarelli also highlighted the need for scholarships and a focus on retaining students after their freshman year.

“Keeping a very close eye on enrollment is very important for me,” said Sartarelli.

The chancellor said that there is still a long road of development ahead for his rough draft vision that was presented today. Sartarelli said that it will be a team effort to improve on the plan, and that he has complete faith in his leadership team moving forward.

“I think that the most exciting thing is to get full support from the board as well as from my faculty and staff to engage in the process,” said Sartarelli.
