10th Annual O’Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am kicks off

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Surf's up in Wrightsville Beach.

Heats are underway right now in the 10th annual O'Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am Surfing Competition. Hundreds packed the surf and shore today for the kickoff of the event.

You can watch all kinds of talent from a variety of age brackets and experience from all over the east coast. We caught up with a local competitor, hitting the waves.

"It's at my hometown, always a fun contest, always a decent wave," said Jesse Heter.

The event runs through Sunday. Tomorrow there is a music festival as well at Wrightsville Beach Park.
