Inspections forcing lane closures on CFMB

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Inspections on the elevators on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are causing traffic headaches.

According to a bridge tender, the inspections will be Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those inspections mean the eastbound outside lane will be closed off to traffic. The bridge tender said the work will be done Tuesday and crews could finish earlier than 4 p.m.

Crews are inspecting the elevators, not working on damage the bridge sustained in an accident from last week. Those repairs will happen at night but the bridge tender did not have the exact date.

Drivers heading into Wilmington from Brunswick County reported backups a few miles back into Leland.
