BOLIVA, NC (StarNews) — A group of eight Brunswick County officials served Monday as the temporary boards of directors for the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission and the Brunswick County Economic Development Corporation only long enough to help both organizations cease to exist.
During two brief, successive meetings Monday, the board ordered the corporation’s dissolution and transferred the commission’s assets to Brunswick County for the stated purpose of aiding economic development.
“What we intend to do is put all the assets in the name of the county, pay off all the liabilities and transfer all the cash to the county. And at that point, the commission would become dormant and would basically cease to exist,” said Ann Hardy, Brunswick County’s manager.
