Ocean Isle Beach kennel re-opened after fire

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) —  A local kennel in Ocean Isle Beach is open again after a fatal fire last month.

Diamond-A-Kennels caught on fire from a malfunctioning AC unit in June. Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner said 18 dogs survived, but 13 did not.

Kennel Owner Debra Sommerset said since the fire only damaged one room, they were able to quickly clean up.

Sommerset said they still have some equipment to replace, but the kennel is fully functioning during their normal hours.
