Blood donations drastically down

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) —  The summer months can be the toughest for the American Red Cross as blood donations typically drop dramatically during this time of year.

Tuesday, the non-profit announced a ‘looming shortage’ of three blood types.  Red Cross officials say there is an urgent need for donors with O negative, B negative and A negative blood.  They are also urging platelet donors and type AB blood donors to visit a blood drive to help ensure the shelves are stocked for patients.
