Army Corps of Engineers seeks comment on Holden Beach Terminal Groin
HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The US Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public hearing next month to get feedback on plans for a terminal groin off Holden Beach.
The meeting on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is scheduled for September 24 from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Holden Beach Town Hall.
The project proposal includes the construction of a 750-feet terminal groin structure and concurrent beach fillet on Holden Beach just west of Lockwood Folly Inlet and Oak Island, the corps says.
The Corps of Engineers seeks comments from the public to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity. Any comments received will be considered by the Corps of Engineers in its final determination on the proposed action. Comments are used to assess the impacts on endangered species, historic properties, water quality, general environmental effects, recreation, as well as other public interest factors. Comments and responses are used in the preparation of a Final EIS and Record of Decision (ROD) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Holden Beach Town Hall is at 110 Rothschild Street. Written comments on the DEIS will be received until 5 p.m. on October 13.
