3 game winning streak for Colin Bonner & UNCW men’s soccer team

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW) — Senior forward Colin Bonner (Reservoir H.S./Fulton, Md.) of UNCW has been named as a co-recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award for the week ending Sept. 6, it has been announced by CAA officials.

Bonner, who shares the honor with sophomore William Eskay of William & Mary, earned his third career CAA Player of the Week award after guiding the Seahawks to a 3-0-0 record last week and the team championship at the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Wrightsville Beach Classic.

“Colin had an outstanding week,” Coach Aidan Heaney said. “He scored some goals of real quality and scoring a hat trick at this level is very difficult.

“His overall play was also instrumental in providing chances for his teammates,” Heaney added. “He is off to a great start and we look for more to come.”

After scoring a goal with an assist in the Seahawks’ 2-1 victory over UNCG on Monday, Bonner exploded for three goals in a 5-1 victory over North Florida for the second “hat trick” of his career. He added an assist in a 6-1 triumph over Campbell on Sunday afternoon and was named as the Offensive MVP of the Courtyard by Marriott Wrightsville Beach Classic.

The CAA Player of the Week award is the second honor for Bonner as he was selected as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award on Thursday afternoon.

A starter in all four games this season, Bonner is tied for the CAA lead with four goals and 10 points.

Off to a 3-0-1 start, Bonner and the Seahawks will host South Carolina to finish a three-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
