NCDOT awards $4.8M for Pender County road work

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County is getting $4.8 million from the N.C. Department of Transportation to mill, resurface, widen lanes and reconstruct shoulders on 17.5 miles of road.

The contract awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co., of Rocky Mount, includes improvements for 6.3 miles of U.S. 117 between U.S. 117 Business and Murphy Road, 1/2 mile of N.C. 53 between U.S. 117 and U.S. 117 Business, and 10.8 miles over three sections of secondary roads.

Work on this project could begin as soon as Sept. 28, and should be done by June 10, 2016. While this work will require some lane closures, there are no detours at this time.

This is one of seven road and bridge projects recently awarded by the Department of Transportation.
