SBI clears WPD in evidence handling issues


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to the spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police Department, the department has been cleared of criminal misconduct in issues with evidence handling.

Linda Rawley said in a news release both the SBI and District Attorney Ben David agree no crimes were committed and no cases were affected. The SBI was asked to investigate after crime scene investigators found several fingerprints that had not been properly cataloged.

There have been no personnel action, Rawley said. The internal investigation continues.
