Season to forget nears an end for Wilmington Hammerheads

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – In 26 attempts the Wilmington Hammerheads only have three wins this season. The team has two games remaining. Both are home games. The Hammerheads will host Pittsburgh on September 12 and Toronto on September 19. Carson Porters is the Wilmington head coach. “It’s not an easy path. There’s no doubt about it,” Porter told WWAY recently. “This isn’t easy and the momentum is against us and it has been. We’re trying to keep our heads up. We’re trying to play with pride. We’re trying to keep it positive, but it’s been, it’s been a season to forget.”

WILMINGTON, NC (HAMMERHEADS) — Wilmington Hammerheads FC prepares to host playoff-hungry Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday, September 12 at Legion Stadium.

The Riverhounds (10-9-6) currently sit one point beneath USL’s Eastern Conference playoff line with only three games remaining in the regular season schedule. To Pittsburgh, a victory is vital as they face the regular season champion Rochester Rhinos and the Harrisburg City Islanders in the coming week.

“I think it is recognized throughout the league that our team is better than our record shows,” said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. “Our recent performance versus Charlotte was excellent, we were the better team, we deserved the three points, and we will build on that. Pittsburgh has to win in regards to playoffs and we hope to be the spoilers on Saturday.”

Wilmington (3-15-8) will not see a spot in playoffs this season, but is still hungry for a victory and looks to end the season on a positive note with two matches remaining in their schedule. The Hammerheads recently traveled to Charlotte where they brought home one point in the standings following draw with the Independence.

The Riverhounds and Hammerheads met on the pitch not long ago at Highmark Stadium as Pittsburgh shut out Wilmington 3-0 following a hat trick from Rob Vincent.

Saturday’s game is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live via Wilmington Hammerheads FC’s YouTube channel.

The Hammerheads host their final match of the 2015 USL regular season on Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for purchase online. For more information regarding Wilmington Hammerheads FC, please contact (910) 777-2111 or visit www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
