Suspicious person call leads to officer assault

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police said a man is facing charges after punching one of their officers.

Police said they were dispatched to the 1500-block of S. 11th Street just before 1:30 a.m. after reports of a man sitting on a porch of a home where he did not live. When police made contact with the man, they said he punch an officer in the left eye and ran off. He was caught after a brief chase.

Police said Joseph Jaquante Holmes, 21, is facing charges including assault on a law enforcement officer. He was booked in jail under a $5,000 bond.
