Part of Wilmington road closing due to sinkhole concerns

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have closed a section of a private road where a sinkhole is forming.

A city spokeswoman said Ringo Drive, between Lennon Drive and Hunters Trail, closed around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The road is a private road not maintained by the city, she said. She also said city officials believe issues with stormwater pipes caused the issue. The stormwater system in that area is also privately owned.

The closure doesn’t impact business or houses, but the spokeswoman said it is a common through street.
