Giant Shark teeth wash up on Topsail Island

TOPSAIL ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Massive shark teeth have been washing up on eastern North Carolina beaches after recent storms unearthed them from beneath the ocean floor.

Several fossilized teeth from a Megalodon have been found by visitors in North Topsail Beach and in Surf City.

Experts at the Aurora Fossil Museum told a WITN reporter that by comparing the sharks and the length of their teeth, they estimate that every one inch of a tooth’s length equals ten feet. So a six-inch long tooth belonged to a Megalodon that was around 60 feet long.

Experts say the North Carolina coast is known as a premier spot to find fossilized teeth from the giant shark.
