Heavy law enforcement presence caused by prank

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the person who called in a fake hostage situation tonight.

A Brunswick County Sheriff’s spokeswoman says they are now investigating the source of the call. Earlier tonight, deputies evacuated some homes near Lanvale Road.

Deputies and other emergency workers had also set up at a church on Old Fayetteville Road near Lanvale Road during the investigation.

The caller will face charges.
