New Hanover Wildcats look for more after capturing league title

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover won the Mideastern Conference title in football last Friday with a 48-0 victory over South Brunswick. It’s the first league title for New Hanover in football since 1994. “It should be a standard at New Hanover High School to be conference champions and to be state champions,” per head coach Earl Smith after practice on Tuesday. “That’s just something, if you don’t set the goals you won’t reach them. That’s the way I have been my whole life. As a head coach I’ve gotten close, but have never gotten to that pinnacle. You need to set that goal and that’s where we are right now.

New Hanover will host Knighdale in a first round state playoff game at Legion Stadium on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
