Wilmington home destroyed by fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington couple is homeless after a fire destroyed their house.

Firefighters say the blaze started just before 11:30 a.m. at the Abbington Terrace home.

According to investigators the fire was caused by an electrical short in the attic area. They say the home was a total loss as damages exceeded $180,000.00.

Both residents were able to make it out of the home safe without getting hurt.

Battalion Chief Tim Smith said they have contacted the Red Cross to help the couple.
