UNCW holds community engagement forums
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — UNCW held two forums tonight to discuss university-community engagement.
The forums were held simultaneously at 5:30, one in downtown Wilmington and one in Wrightsville Beach.
UNCW QENO Director Natasha Davis started the meeting by saying that getting input from the community is important to UNCW Chancellor Zito Sarterelli.
While some attendees at the forum in Wrightsville Beach said the university does a good job providing interns and volunteers for the area, others said the university is too disorganized when it comes to discussing new ideas for community involvement.
Paul Wilkes, Founder and Executive Director of Homes for India, said, “There’s no coordination. There’s no one place [to go for] one stop shopping that kind of has the reach for the university. You have to go around [asking] Can you do this? Can you do that?”
Davis said the UNCW Strategic Planning Committee meets once a month to discuss their progress.
