Police find woman’s body inside burned mobile home

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — Fayetteville police say the body of a woman has been found inside a mobile home where firefighters were dispatched after heavy smoke was seen coming from the home.

The Fayetteville Observer reports police said firefighters found the body of 36-year-old Audrey Purnell Wednesday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Morgan said firefighters were sent to the home around 4:30 a.m. and advised that someone may be inside the home.

Morgan said firefighters went inside and found Purnell in the living room. He said the firefighters rushed the woman outside, where paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Sgt. James Phillips said there were no signs of foul play, adding that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
