Military contractor comes home, wins $100K
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Homecomings are always exciting for those who serve in the military, as a soldier or civilian, but one Fayetteville woman got quite the surprise when she came home.
According to a news release from the NC Education Lottery, Kristi Spruill bought a winning Powerball ticket on December 16 after returning home from Afghanistan. The release said she doesn’t usually play Powerball and didn’t realize she won $100,000. She matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball, but doubled the winnings from $50,000 to $100,000 when the 2x multiplier was drawn, the release said.
After taxes, Spruill will take home $69,250. She plans to pay off credit card bills with the money.
