City Council approves more community conversations with police

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council members approved a $9,500 fund allocation for law enforcement community conversations.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said these meetings are hosted by UNCW and targeted on youth violence. He said this money will allow for 20 meetings in the community over the next 10 months.

“It allows us to really hear from the residents and hopefully be able to understand each other on a whole new level,” Evangelous said.

City council also approved an equipment donation for the police department at the meeting. It is for hand-held devices that inject medicine to help stop heroin overdoses.
