New details released in shootings near Wilmington schools


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say some homes were hit by gunfire in an afternoon ShotSpotter alert that sheltered in place a few schools.

A WPD spokeswoman said the alert was reported around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of S. 11th Street near Crocus Court. Police said two homes in the 100-block of Crocus Court, as well as a home in the 1500-block of S. 11th Street were hit by shots. No injuries were reported.

Gregory Elementary, Williston Middle and Lake Forest Academy were sheltered in place for a brief time after the alert.
