Drug arrests made in Brunswick County

On Wednesday, dozens of suspected drug dealers were taken off the streets in Brunswick County in operation April Fools.

After serving search warrants early Wednesday morning, the Brunswick Sheriff’s Drug Unit arrested dozens of people who were under investigation for selling drugs to undercover deputies.

Rounding up these suspects started back in December.

“We have sent the message before, stop the activity or relocate,” said Sheriff John Ingram.

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for 94 suspected drug dealers across the county. They’re looking mainly for repeat offenders who are selling cocaine, marijuana, crack and prescription pills. These suspects range from street level dealers to the county’s major drug traffickers.

Once rounded up, suspects were brought to the Sheriff’s Department for processing and then maybe placed in jail. So far, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department has made 43 arrests.

Sheriff Ingram said continued efforts like this operation will send a clear message to those who commit drug crimes. “As long as they will continue to sell, then we will continue to do it.”

Some of those people were suspects deputies were looking for in December, and have finally been caught.

Sheriff Ingram credited many of these leads to the community, for taking action against crime in their neighborhoods.
