Limited beach access at Freeman Park

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) – A beach renourishment project and high tides means there will be limited beach access for drivers and campers starting at the end of this month.

The town of Carolina Beach says areas north of Zone 10 in Freeman Park will be closed to vehicles beginning February 29th.  You will not be able to drive in this area until beach renourishment wraps up.  The town expects the area to reopen in May.

Also, campsites #1 through #63 will have obstructed ocean views and beach access because of the renourishment project.  Piping will be near these campsites, which will impact the landscape and path toward the water.  Although the beach renourishment project should be finished by April 30, the piping may take longer to remove.

So if you’re planning a camping trip within the next few months, keep this information in mind.
