Several local organizations hold blanket drive for the homeless

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several local organizations came together Saturday to host a blanket drive for those who are homeless. There were blankets, scarves, sanitation products, and even food for anyone who needed it.

Cynthia Blash organized this event and says she learned there was a need for this by working at the Queensboro and seeing the people wandering around the area without jackets on during the winter.

She says there are so many reasons why a person is homeless and said she just wanted to give to those going through a tough time.

“When you give them something they don’t even have to say thank you,” said Blash. “You can see it on their face, you can see it in their eyes how grateful they are, even if you just stop and talk to them or reach out to them like this.”

Blash says she hopes this becomes an annual event.
