Brunswick County court adding Public Defenders Office

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY)– Some help is on the way for Brunswick County’s court system.   

According to the 15th Prosecutorial District Office, which includes Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus counties, a Public Defender’s Office is being added.  

According to the state budget, there will be one public defender, 16 assistant public defenders, and 6 support staff members that will serve the three counties.  

The extra staffing will allow the public defender to be able to meet with clients sooner, which will help clear the backlog of cases.
