Bellamy Mansion Museum to treat visitors to monsters, movies, and madness this weekend
WILMINGTON (WWAY) — The Bellamy Mansion Museum in Downtown Wilmington has hosted a festivity-filled week ahead of Halloween. And, they’re not done yet.
From 5:30-6:30pm on Wednesday, October 25th, the museum first explored how science can help explain society’s fascination with “fanged foes,” or vampires. To read our recap of the talk, click here.
This Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th the museum will next host a night of “monster movie madness” on the mansion lawn from 6:30 to 10pm (with doors opening at 6pm). Education and Engagement Director Jen Fenninger said that the event was on-hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but after receiving email inquires about its return, the museum revived it.
Guests will watch a “creature double feature” on both nights, with four different movies screened throughout. Fenninger teased some of the titles guests can get a good scare from. She said that the films are family-friendly, ranging from PG to PG-13, and have a classic horror feel.
Friday:
- “Little Shop of Horrors” at 6:30pm
- “Night of the Living Dead” at 8pm
Saturday:
- “The Hands of Fate” at 6:30pm
- “The Last Man on Earth” at 8pm
No pets, or outside food or beverage, is allowed, but refreshments – or “ghoulish goodies” like popcorn and soda floats – will be available for purchase.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn or beach chairs and blankets, get comfortable, and enjoy the evening.
Fenninger added that she will be in-costume – costumes are highly-encouraged, and, costumed guests might even get a treat.
The event is free with a suggested donation of $5. As a non-profit, Fenninger said that the museum fundraises through admission and donations, and anything is appreciated.
The Bellamy Mansion Museum is housed at 503 Market Street, on the corner of Market Street and Fifth Street, and free parking is available.
