Police say no threat ever existed after shots heard near campus of Surf City Elementary/Middle

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Police say no threat ever existed to students on the campus of Surf City Elementary/Middle after shots were heard nearby.

Police say a report about potential shots fired came in around 10:30 Thursday morning.

It was determined the shots came from an off-campus location.

The School Resource Officer was at the location and contacted the Surf City Police Department who responded to the site to verify that no threat existed.

The campus has been cleared and there is no active threat.

Additional officers will be on-site at the school for the remainder of the day.
