Cruz latest presidential candidate to visit North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Ted Cruz is the latest presidential candidate to campaign in North Carolina as next week’s primary approaches.

The Texas senator’s campaign scheduled a midday rally Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church and School south of Raleigh. The ticketed event is free.

Cruz’s last major public event in North Carolina was speaking at last June’s state Republican Party Convention. His wife, Heidi, spoke last weekend at the Civitas Institute’s annual Conservative Leadership Conference.

Cruz is second in the GOP delegate count nationwide to Donald Trump, who spoke in Concord on Monday and is slated back in Fayetteville on Wednesday night. North Carolina is one of five states with presidential primaries March 15.

Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is slated to be in North Carolina on Thursday.
