$91 million of State Budget allocated to Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — $91 million is coming to Columbus County for some major improvements.

The money is coming from the recently approved state budget. Areas like Fair Bluff, Tabor City, Chadbourn, among many others are anticipating these needed funds for their city and town projects.

But one town is seeing a hefty portion of that grant.

Lake Waccamaw is receiving a little more than $9 million for projects in the town.

Close to $3 million of that will go towards its dam reconstruction project, $2.5 million will be for capital improvements and equipment at Town Hall, and $4 million will help with water and sewer improvements.

Lake Waccamaw Mayor, Matt Wilson, said this money is greatly appreciated and needed.

“It’s gonna help with our water pressure and we’ve got faulty sewer lines and stuff. So, the money will be put to good use,” Wilson said.

Wilson added the town would like to see its dam completely rebuilt in the future. But for now, this money will help with the improvements needed to continue having a functioning dam.
