RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Tuesday’s North Carolina primary will distribute delegates to presidential candidates and let voters choose party nominees for scores of general election races.
There are primary races for president, governor, U.S. Senate, Council of State positions, the legislature and other posts. There’s also a $2 billion bond referendum.

The state primary is usually held in May, but the General Assembly decided to move it up in 2016 to wield more influence in choosing presidential nominees. Then legislators decided last fall to bring up the other primary elections as well, although congressional elections have been delayed until June after a redistricting ruling.
More than 10 percent of the registered voters cast ballots during the early-voting period. The modern-era record for overall turnout in a primary is 37 percent in 2008.
