Loren Baysden steps down as Cape Fear Academy boys basketball coach
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Academy boys head basketball coach Loren Baysden has decided to take a break from coaching. Baysden was named the head coach at Cape Fear Academy in 2006.
Below we’ve copied a portion of the letter Baysden wrote to his players and former players.
“I have had a wonderful 10 years of coaching at Cape Fear Academy. When I was hired in my twenties by the A.D., Chris Meehl, to lead the basketball program, I never thought that I would be doing it for a decade. However, the environment at CFA of reaching one’s potential in every area of their life, my enjoyment of the game, the leadership and friendship of Chris, and most of all, the relationships that were fostered through this game with my players kept me here and have made me very happy and feeling very blessed. I started coaching basketball because it was a passion. Coaching actually still is a passion of mine in generality. But in this day and age, you really need to a have a passion for the game itself, and that for me has waned over the years.”
Baysden added that he believes the basketball program at Cape Fear Academy would be better off with someone else.
