Wilmington Central Rotary Club salutes veterans

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– All this week, people across the Cape Fear are taking time to “salute” those who served ahead of Veterans Day this weekend.

The Wilmington Central Rotary Club hosted its annual “Salute to a Vet” this afternoon at the Wilmington Convention Center.

Every year for the last two years, each Rotarian invites a New Hanover County Veteran of their choice to attend a luncheon to be recognized for their service.

“I think they’ll remember that we are proud of them and the service they gave to our country. A lot of them didn’t come back, and a lot of times when you honor these veterans, they share those stories. So, I think that it brings to their mind that we are thankful for what they gave to this country,” said Louise McColl, Former Wilmington Central Rotary President.

Along with lunch, there was a band, as well as special speakers to help say “thank you” to these vets.
