NORTHWEST, NC (WWAY) — A write in candidate in the race for mayor in Northwest may actually win the race.

The Board of Elections released two of the write-in candidates names Thursday.

Unofficial results show the race for mayor with almost 75 percent of the votes for a write in.

Mayor James Know was running for re-election, but only received about 25 percent of the vote with 48 votes.

Brunswick County Board of Elections Director Sara Lavere told WWAY they would only release the names of the write in candidates if the person is registered to vote in the jurisdiction, lives in the jurisdiction and if they get more than five votes.

According to the numbers released Thursday, Sheila Grady received 120 votes and Susan Schenck received 16 votes.

The Board of Elections will meet to canvass the votes November 17th.
