Supply man charged in Brunswick County’s largest heroin bust
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Supply man is in jail after deputies say they made the biggest heroin bust in Brunswick County’s history.
Deputies say they found 8,000 bindles of heroin in a car Kevin Jermaine Hankins was driving. The drugs have a street value of about $160,000.
Hankins, 32, is charged with possession and trafficking heroin, eluding arrest and other crimes. Detectives say it’s the end of a nearly year-long investigation.
Investigators say when they tried to pull Hankins over for a traffic violation around 2 a.m. on US 17 South at Waterford in Leland, he took off and led them on a chase. It ended when a deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop the car at US 17 North and Green Hill Road. The crash caused about $1,500 worth of damage to the patrol car.
Hankins is in the Brunswick County Jail under $760,000 bond.
The investigation continues, and the Sheriff’s Office expects more arrests.
