Coast Guard medevacs man near Emerald Isle

EMERALD ISLE, NC — The Coast Guard rescued a man Friday 16 miles west of Emerald Isle after the boat he was on, ran aground.

Crews at the Emerald Isle station received a report around 4 p.m. 4:18 p.m. that the 50-foot boat ran aground with four people aboard. One passenger, a 62-year-old man, had suffered a head injury and needed medical attention and was taken to Carteret Hospital in Morehead City.

“The crew of Station Emerald Isle did a fantastic job responding quickly to the report of the grounded vessel and injured passenger,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Aaron Wohlander.

Two passengers remained on board and a tow boat was sent to bring them back.
