Person arrested for deadly Sunset Beach hit and run of 80-year-old man
SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — State Troopers have arrested a man for allegedly hitting and killing an 80-year-old man in Sunset Beach.
The 80-year-old man was walking west crossing from Mt. Zion Church Road to the West shoulder of NC 904 to assist with a vehicle in the ditch when he was hit.
62-year-old Jeffrey Scott Haigler was taken into custody around 2:00 p.m. Friday.
Haigler was charged with Felony Hit & Run Causing Serious Bodily Injury/Death. He was processed at the Brunswick County Detention Facility.
During the investigation, troopers seized a White 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to Haigler. Investigators say the vehicle showed extensive damage to right fender, right headlight assembly and passenger-side mirror.
