2 killed in Columbus County crash

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on NC Highway 11 Saturday night.

Sgt. Daniel Hilburn with the Highway Patrol said it happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday night on General Howe Road. He said a minivan was traveling north went it drove left of center and hit a tractor trailer head-on.

Hilburn said the two vehicles drove off the shoulder and caught fire. He said two passengers in the minivan were ejected and later pronounced dead.

Hilburn said the driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries.

The identities of the passengers have not been released at this time.
