NFL to stream on Twitter

(CNN) — Thursday Night NFL fans will be able to watch an entire game live on Twitter this season.

A person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed a Bloomberg News report that Twitter will be the NFL’s digital partner.

Last week, Facebook dropped out of the race, at that time Amazon and Verizon were still pushing hard for the rights.

Earlier this year, the NFL announced that both CBS and NBC had secured TV rights to the Thursday Night Football games, as well as the option of streaming the content to paying cable subscribers. However, global streaming rights were still up for grabs, with Twitter now winning the battle.

NFL and Twitter previously worked together on promotional efforts like in-game highlights.
