Coffee with a cop at Beau’s raising money for Special Olympics

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is raising money for the Special Olympics and participating in coffee with a cop Thursday.

Deputies will be at Beau’s Coffee from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to interact with the community and raise money for the cause.

Beau’s Coffee Shop gives people with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to work and interact with the Wilmington community.

Sgt. Billy Montjoy with The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said coffee with a cop is also an important opportunity for law enforcement to interact with the community.

“It’s an open forum,” Montjoy said. “The community can come out, express any concerns, ask any questions. We have law enforcement officers standing by. We’d be more than happy to sit down and have a cup of Joe with you.”

Montjoy said they are getting the best of both worlds by participating in coffee with a cop and raising money for the Special Olympics. Last year, he said deputies raised about $10,000 for the Special Olympics.
