Wilmington golf professional Sara Bush featured nationally on Golf Channel
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (PGA OF AMERICA RELEASE) – The Carolinas PGA Section and its work growing junior golf through its Drive, Chip & Putt qualifiers held across North and South Carolina will be spotlighted on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive program on Wednesday, April 13, in celebration of the PGA of America’s Centennial.
As the largest of the PGA of America’s 41 Sections with more than 2,000 PGA Professionals throughout North and South Carolina, the Carolinas PGA Section has established itself as a leader in junior golf initiatives, including Drive, Chip & Putt. A joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and the PGA of America, the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. The Carolinas PGA Section hosts 14 Drive, Chip & Putt qualifying events between June and August, with thousands of boys and girls ages 7-15 participating and more than 100 Carolinas PGA Professionals and Apprentices volunteering their time for these events.
Featured in the Carolinas PGA Section Spotlight is Sara Bush, Head PGA Professional at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., and her work leading the Drive, Chip & Putt qualifier at her facility. Bush’s goal in hosting her qualifier is to make it a fun-filled day for families and kids, and she incorporates other activities like face painting and games that include chipping a golf ball into a kiddie pool set up in the facility’s pond. Bush’s creativity has grown the event from approximately 150 participants in 2014 to 200 last year. This year’s Country Club of Landfall qualifier is set for July 7.
In celebration of its Centennial, the PGA of America has partnered with Golf Channel to shine a spotlight on all 41 PGA Sections and their featured programs and initiatives led by PGA Professionals nationwide. The PGA Section Spotlights are scheduled to air on the Golf Channel from Jan. 27–May 4, spanning 100 days in honor of the Centennial.
“In celebrating our Centennial, we want to honor our 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals in all PGA Sections across the country,” said PGA President Derek Sprague. “Each day, they’re growing the game and using golf to better lives in their communities, as evidenced by efforts like those of the Carolinas PGA Section. We’re very proud of these PGA Professionals and look forward to highlighting their efforts this year.”
The spotlights will run in conjunction with the #ThxPGAPro Centennial celebration social media campaign, where golfers everywhere can post videos, photos and messages in support of their favorite PGA Professionals on ThxPGAPro.com or through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Section Spotlights also will be featured prominently on ThxPGAPro.com.
