Wilmington Fire Department responds to weekend space heater blaze
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department says they responded to several fires over the weekend.
One of the fires was caused by space heaters.
Crews say there were two of them plugged into one extension cord and it started a fire in the bathroom.
As the weather turns colder, there are several safety tips to follow:
- Plug heaters directly into the outlet on the wall.
- Only use one device per outlet.
- Keep the heater at least 3 feet away from anything that can catch fire.
Fortunately, there were no injuries in this fire. But the family was displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.
