3 dead in small plane crash in Long Island neighborhood

SYOSSET, N.Y. (AP) – Officials say three people have been killed after a small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood on Long Island.

It happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano says the bodies were found after the Beech BE-35 aircraft went down on Cold Spring Road in Syosset.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said three passengers were on board the plane. He said it had taken off from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and was headed to Robertson Field, an airport in Plainville, Connecticut.

The FAA says it is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board will attempt to determine what caused the crash.
