Pine Valley Methodist spreads holiday cheer by making and giving away thousands of meals

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While the holiday season is the time to give and receive gifts, Pine Valley Methodist Church was giving to those in need.

All throughout the week leading up to Christmas, volunteers made meals to give away to anyone and everyone who wanted one.

The church made meals for three days, including around 2 thousand in just one day.

In total, around 3,500 meals were made and given away.

For Linda Hudson, this was the first time she had volunteered to make meals.

She said she enjoyed seeing the reactions of those who received a meal.

“Well, a lot of people, they don’t have families, they live alone and its just a good, you know, its better to give than receive and to see the reactions of them, they’re just so humble,” Hudson said.

Steve Williams is the kitchen manager for the church and has helped with this event for the past 5 years.

He said it meant a lot to see so many people help make meals.

“We’re here to help people in the community, that’s what the church thrives on and we’re just here to serve and to help,” Williams said.
