#ThisIsThePlace: Mailbox full of secrets and memories

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — If you walk pass Shell Island Resort and continue to head north along the beach, you’ll come across a special mailbox.

The orange colored mailbox stands alone with the words “Leave a note” on the front.

The Post Office doesn’t pick up or deliver to the box so people can write letters to clear their conscious, place them in a mailbox, but never have them sent.

The mailbox stays stocked with paper and pens from visitors who pour their hearts out to complete strangers.

The very first mailbox was put in 11 years, but after being vandalized it now can be found on display at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History.
