Pet owners to go to trial over Walden Pond Pet Cemetery

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of pet owners are going to trial over the Walden Pond Pet Cemetery after an ongoing lawsuit.

Last year the pet owners sued Ricky Coates for trying to develop the land and have their animals removed.

Kim Phelps said they are going to a jury trial May 31 hoping to keep the land as a pet cemetery. Phelps said they tried to work through the problem in mediation. She said they offered Coates $40,000 for the land, but he would not accept it.

Phelps hopes the community will come out and support them.
